Excerpt:

I am a busy wife. I plan, organize and execute. I spend my day ticking off boxes and keeping everyone fed. I have a child (and a dog and a stubborn plant) to keep alive and discipline, and a husband to whom I have promised my better and worse, my sickness and health, my thick and thin. I have a small business to run, a Master’s degree to complete, and a social network that I hope to bless. It sounds ridiculously manic, but I do mean well in all this doing, doing, doing. My overblown days are mostly a result of my eagerness to make it all work – to make it all, in the end, bring glory to God.

But then I am a beautiful bride, too. I just forget.

STORYTELLING: THE STORY OF ME (Grades 3 - 5)

“We tell ourselves stories in order to live.”

My favorite author, Joan Didion, once said, “We tell ourselves stories in order to live.” I have seen this to be true both in the lives of adults and of children. Children, specifically, are gifted in storytelling. They have what it takes to write a good story — imagination, courage, honesty and curiosity. In this class, I hope to encourage children’s self-awareness, confidence and creativity by helping them tell the story they know best — The Story of Me. Through pictures, family trees, story boards, role playing, drawing and elementary writing, we will all together discover the things that make us who we are and why we’re all so special. By recalling experiences and details, children will learn to appreciate both the good things and bad, and know that bumps along the road make a story worth reading. So please sign up your kids and watch them grow in their knowledge of self and of the world through this storytelling journey.
